m3talslug's fighting joystick
m3talslug:
Yes, I ran the +5v straight from the PS cable. I think it was Pin5 if I'm not mistaken.
I don't really want to pull apart the control pad after getting all of it mounted to the joystick. <-- it wouldn't be of much help anyhow since the wires are LONG and it would be hard to show how it all connects.
Instead, I'll draw up something and do my best to explain ;)

Go to the link above... unfortunately that free webhosting site won't allow me to link pictures from other sites.
The picture is basically the back of one of the ANALOG controls. i.e. the left Analog thumb stick.
If you wanted to wire this to... let's say a Happ Super this is what you'd do:
You'll need 4 Wires to connect to the following "dots"
1 - Red
1 - Blue
1 - x axis
1 - y axis
None of these points appeard to be GND and I still have no idea what a POT or a HALL is.
If NONE of the wires touch this represents a "50% signal" <-- the stick is basically centered if Y is at 50% and X is at 50%
If RED and Y-Axis touch it represents "0 signal on Y" = Down
If Blue and Y-Axis touch it represents "100% signal on Y" = UP
.
.
.
The RED and BLUE are common on the other analog stick as well so you'll only need an additional 2 wires to hook the other analog control. The RED and BLUE points are commonly labled on the PCB as 1 and 3 respectively.
Hope that helps.

Quick question: can you take some pictures of how you got the analog joysticks hooked up to the analog psx joysticks? I'd definitely be interested in seeing this, cause I wouldn't mind trying this hack out myself if it works.
Also, what did you use to power the Perfect 360s? Did you just wire it to the 5+v coming out out of the playstation plug?

FYI, Perfect 360's are not analog joysticks. They are switchless 8-ways (I believe using LEDs). As m3talslug pointed out, you could also hookup normal 8-ways the same way (minus the +5v power).
CthulhuLuke:
Yep, I knew bout the perfect 360s not being analog controls, I've used em on Capcom vs SNK 2 machines and they're hella smooth, although they did get dirty and not cleaned, which was no good.
Hmm.. thanx for the info m3talslug, I think I might go pick up a gamestop dual shock psx controller, and see if I can get the same results, maybe I can make a new joystick and put a switch on it to go from digital to analog, that shouldn't be too hard I wouldn't think. I've gotten my digital controllers to work from Gamestop on my dreamcast convertors, I wonder if their dual shock versions will work as well.
-Anyways, thanx

Very nice M3talslug!
Could you tell us where you purchased the "invisible" hinges? All of my control panels thus far have some unsightly hinges in the front or back, I'd like to get rid of them...
m3talslug:
I bought them from Home Depot. They are "lock hinges" which snap open and snap close. THey are also types that you can mount if you have a "circular drill bit" or ones that you simply screw down with 4 screws on each side.
I went for the "easy to mount" 4 screws on each side.
