DC/PSX Questions HELP!!!
« on: June 07, 2005, 06:43:51 pm »
Ok, heres the deal. I have a few consoles that have some problems.......and am looking for any help on fixing these!

1)  Just bought a PSX that POWERS UP and goes through the opening screen, etc...........but does not recognize the game disks.

2) I have a DC that I just bought that was used, as well........but it doesnt seem to recognize the disks half the time.  It has to be restarted numerous times to get it to work.  I have tried using a disk cleaner, let it go for over a minute on the cleaning setting like 3 times.........could I have inadverantly made it worse?

3)  Have another DC I have had for some time......bought the above one to replace it.  This one starts up fine, but shorts out sometimes in title screen, sometimes while deep in a game, sometimes not at all.  It resets and sometimes restarts the disk, but sometimes just nothign comes up.  I do not believe it is a disk problem.

I have used a disk cleaner on all three.  The only one it seems to have helped is number 3 to an extent, POSSIBLY.  Also, after the TWO bad experiences with the Dreamcasts, is my assumption true that Dreamcasts were constructed LIKE CRAP?  I love the games.....but the quality of the unit seems pretty bad.  Any remedies for these problems would be great, thanks!

I believe the solution to all three of your problems is laser adjustments, not just cleaning.  There are tutorials on the net on how to do this.  I'll see if I can locate them and post a link here.

well..........YAY!   ;D  I the remaining dreamcast to work.........but we will see for how long.(in other words, I assume there will be some more calibration needed in the future)

As for the Playstation.........I got it to work as well!  I started playing a game, and everything was good, but when I tried it again, it only got to the second PS loading screen(the black one) and froze.  I wish the pictures on that site were a little higher quality.......but I should be able to finish it later and have a working Playstation for .99!  But, when it did work........the second loading screen(the black one) was up for about 30-45 seconds before the game even started to go on.  Is that normal?  Thanks again!!!!!!!!!

ok, so spent another 45minutes(ugh) on the playstation..........it now works fine  8)  .  but, on one game, the sound sort of skipped.......(the disk is in pretty good shape).  I guess that it doesnt have to do with calibration, another game I tried is good.......so Im good to go, I believe!  I havent tried the other DC except for once, I will give you a final update later!

well I still have yet to check out the DC for thorough final "testing"(sitting on ---my bottom--- and playing games for an hour.).  But seriously...........THANK YOU!!  I never thought that Playstation would work.  Not for a minute.  OR that my DCs could be saved........I was about to toss them all.  Thanks!
