What 'non-game' buttons do you have on your cp??

If you press the shift key, and then another key, only the shifted key command (in this case TAB) is sent.
If you hit the shift key, and then release it without hitting another key then the default command for the shift key (in this case ESC) is sent.

My Pause key IS the ESC key.
This works nicely because it allows me to pause, and then ESC from the menus with only one key.

The other keys I have mapped are P1 Start (TAB), P2 Start (ENTER), Left Flipper = 5 (O), Right Flipper = 6 (K).
That lets me enter OK when I don't have a joystick hooked up.

--- Quote ---When you do that does it pause or unpause the game?

That depends on how you hit the buttons.
If you hit and release Pause, then hold Pause, then hit another key, the game will pause on the first hit/release, then enter the shifted key that you hit while holding Pause the second time.

If you just hold Pause, and hit a key, it will just send the shifted key without pausing.

Thank you very much;  that is exactly the information I was looking for.  As always, you are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful.

If I were making a cab, here are some that I would include:

1) Pause Game
2) Quit Game
3) Credit (a.k.a Insert Coin)
4) Game Options
5) Service Mode

If you wanted to be arcade authentic, maybe put the last two as switches inside the coin door, just like the arcades do!

I put QUIT on the wireless mouse that goes with the cab.
That way nobody accidentally "finds" it when they are playing.

can you guys think of a bad reason to have to press and hold p1 start as the shift button? I really want to keep the CP down to the 6 buttons for each player plus start buttons.
