tommy:
Take your time when you build a cabinet, make sure everything is done neat and sound, make sure you have something to play on so you don't rush your work just to play quickly.

You will feel so great when you finish if you take your time and do all the little things.

If you're going to sell a cab still take your time, otherwise it will look like it was thrown togeather, on the one you keep make it special.

Doing THAT is essentially a money losing venture. People just don't want to pay hundreds of dollars for a homebuilt wood cabinet when they can get a used cabinet (usually MUCH higher quality), that usually comes with assorted other add ons for FREE-$50.

MonitorGuru:
I have built 2 cabinets and started a third.

The last one I built was a copy of a Galaxian, just 4.5" shallower.  Built it out of a single 49x97" sheet of 3/4" melamine. (white plastic laminated particle board). Also needed a smaller sheet of melamine at around $8 for more cross-pieces.

Wood costs: $30
Polyurathane glue (like gorrilla) $ 4

Total cost: $34 or so.. a few misc piece of scrap wood for bezel supports, etc...

However here is the list of tools I used (I already had) and the approximate price you'd have to pay if you don't have them at a place like Menards or Harbor Freight:

- Table saw ($100)
- 10" Sliding compound mitre saw ($100)
- Jig Saw ($10)
- Random obital sander ($25)
- 3/8" VSR Drill ($10)
- Bar clamps: ($10)
- Ratchet nylon strapping (when gluing cabinet): $20
- Router: ($50)
- Straight router bit set ($10)
- Drill bit set ($5)
- Chisels/Square/Tape measure/Level/Screwdrivers... ($20)
- Tmolding router bit: ($15)
- Saw horses ($15)
- Earmuffs/dust masks/etc... ($5)

Total: About $395 in reusable hardware.
