Mamewah and Vpinmame (again, probably)
« on: May 08, 2005, 02:53:04 pm »
I managed to set up Mamewah to launch Vpinmame sucessfully using the wrapper. Everything launches and plays perfectly but when I exit I get the "Return to game/exit" dialog box. Is this normal behavior with no way around it or is it supposed to drop me right back into Mamewah? I'm quite willing to believe I messed it up somewhere but if so, how do I fix it?

Also when adding new tables, is there any way to update the list in Mamewah or do I have to delete the .lst files and generate a new one? I couldn't figure out how to update it in Mamewah Config or using Listgen.NET. figured that out.

For me, it seems to depend on the table.
I was originally using PinballWrapper, however, it suddenly started showing the VisualPinball screen when loading and to play the table I always had to minimise it manually (still haven't figured out why it's happening).

Anyway, I ended up using VP-Launch v2. Occasionally I get the box up with the options of quit to editor, etc and I find that if I press ESC again, I will end up back at Mamewah.
As an aside, I also tried VP-Launch v4 but couldn't get it working. Kept getting an error message regarding file couldn't be found.

So, I currently have tables loading okay, but I get a black screen instead of the nice splash screen that PinballWrapper has.

Yeah I noticed that different tables work differently. Probably something to do with the scripting on the table but that's just a wild guess. As you said, the ESC twice thing works. I can live with that. Just so long as I'm not having to break out the mouse at any point, it's all good.

This is normal behavior.  As a matter of fact it's essential for the wrapper to work (it's just sometimes it goes away so fast that you don't see it).

Don't press esc twice, hold escape instead of tapping it.  That's how all my wrappers work btw.

Yes, the focus issues are due to bad scripting on the table author's part.  My wrappers have the code included to fight this, third party wrappers by other authors don't.  Complicating the matter is the fact that the pinmame authors keep changing the class name of the pinmame window.  As my wrappers use this to manipulate focus, it's important to ge the right wrapper version for the right version of pinmame.

Long story short, visual pinball and pinmame are seemingly, intentionally coded so that you can't use them without a mouse.  If you can get the table to launch, get set to focus and exit with a single key press be grateful and don't worry about visual glitches during the process.
