Betson and ArcadeVGA problem
« on: April 16, 2005, 06:17:05 pm »
I have a new Betson KT2914F monitor and a new ArcadeVGA card.  I am running Windows ME on a Asus Anthalon MB.  When I start it up I get three beeps and the monitor shows that there is no signal.  I have not loaded any of the Ultimarc drivers yet because according to the instructions I'm supposed to do that after hooking up the monitor.  Oh yeah, I removed my old ATI drivers before I started any of this and am using standard VGA drivers.

I hooked the monitor up to another computer and it worked fine.  I put the old video card in the arcade computer and the monitor worked fine.
I tried moving the ArcadeVGA card around to make sure it was seated and it is.  I made sure that the monitor cable is seated and it is screwed all the way in and is flush with the backside of the card.

I looked on the Ultimarc forum and found one reference that indicated the AGP files need to be updated.  I tried that and it still doesn't make a difference.  Still 3 beeps and no video feed.

Checked Ultimarc's site and found nothing there about this problem.

I'm sending an email to Andy but does anyone else have any suggestions?  Thanks.

You need to state the model number of the motherboard.

In the meantime check the motherboard manual and make sure it has a AGP 2x, 3x or 4x slot. The ArcadVGA will not work in the original AGP slot and you would probably damage the card if you forced it into one (a locking tab should prevent this from happening).

It is an A7M266.  It has an AGP 2x slot and works with my ATI - Radeon, AGP card.

Yes, it fits fine into the AGP slot including the locking tab which is fully engaged with the card in the slot.

Scratch that, it is an AGP 4X slot.

Update, pulled out a newer computer, actually stole my son's, and put the ArcadeVGA card in it and it runs fine.  Lot of flicker but it runs fine.

So, it must be my motherboard because I have the most recent AGP drivers and motherboard drivers for it.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Another update.  Received a couple of emails from Andy at Ultimarc and he recognized the problem as a batch of cards that they had some problems with.  I was a lucky winner (how come I'm never this lucky with the lotter?)  I'm mailing it back to him for a replacement.

I have been impressed with Andy's response time whenever I have sent him an email.

I mailed the AVGA card back to Andy at Ultimarc and he sent me a new one right away.  Installed it last night, loaded the drivers, tweaked it a little and it works great.  Great product Andy as it drives the Betson monitor much better than my ATI card.

If you haven't seen it yet Retroblast has a great walkthrough of how to setup teh AVGA and the Betson or the WG monitor.  Very helpful!
