correct way to ground this
kenzo42:
hey everyone,
i have a jamma cab and it only has 2 prongs. the back of the cab has a ground screw. however, i am using a 2 prong step down converter that has 3 prong outputs.
is the step down converter not really grounded since its power plug is only 2 prong? what are my options?
thanks
JoyMonkey:
Take a look at this diagram I threw together in the Arcade Misc forum, it's not exactly your setup, but has some relevance.
As far as I can tell, you should run a heavy wire from the ground prong on your new plug to your monitor, metal control panel and the inside of the coin door.

what if my step down converter, which my cab is plugged into, doesn't have an earth ground though? will my cab still be grounded if i do it your method?
cholin:
I dont quite get it, but theres two types of "ground". Theres the negative current, called a ground, and theres an earth ground. On a two prong plug, you get + and -. So the screw at the back of your cabinet should lead to an earth ground. I dont know about transformers, but anything that is plugged in with two prongs is not earth-grounded.
I just got it. The step down converter is probably not earth grounded, since it only uses 2 prongs. You probably have to put a ground wire to it.

I am confused. How many prongs are on your transformer?
