Dexter:
Guys,

I was speaking to an arcade owner who has a Killer instinct mackine with a dead HD in it. Is it possible to use a HD image or the CHD image to write onto a blank hard drive to bring the game back to life?

Anybody tried this before with Killer instinct or one of the other hard disk games??

Dexter:
I need to know what format the image would have to be in. I take it a file converted to CHD format would not work. I think I have an image for use in ultra64 lying around, could one of these be used?

SirPeale:
You can use the CHD image, but you have to convert it with the chdman.exe file that comes with Mame.

chdman -extract kinst.chd kinst.raw

Or, alternatively, the very latest version lets you write the image directly to a replacement hard drive:

With KI/KI2 you have to have a special boot ROM that allows you to use any hard drive.  This I'm not sure where it's available.  It used to be available @ http://www.killerinstinctproject.com but IIRC it's gone.  I know there are mirrors, I just don't know where.

Dexter:
Brilliant Peale thank you!
