Driving force & Gt force differences?
« on: March 12, 2005, 08:19:43 pm »
What are the differences between these two wheels? apart from the
d-pad added to the Driving force wheel itself? are they both force feed back and usb?

IIRC, the GT force wheel was teh official wheel of Gran Turismo 3.  It then kind of evolved or simply became the Driving Force.  As far as I can tell, they are the same wheel internals.  I haven't seen both side by side, but I'm betting button placement is the same also.

Logitech's new wheel, the Driving Force PRO is the offical wheel of Gran Turismo 4, and is a 900 degree wheel.

The Driving Force Pro is the best wheel available (without spending a thousand or more (exaggeration, but not a huge one)), and the Xbox has no wheel that even comes close to it.

The Xbox has no wheels that even support force feedback. A company called Fanatec is coming out with a wheel called the Speedster 3: Forceshock, and it will offer force feedback, but it will be faked forces based off of the rumble signals sent to the controller, and it will not be 900

The Driving Force is a decent wheel.  I've really enjoyed it.  Force feedback is good, control is good, and it feels good overall.

The Driving Force Pro, however, is amazing.  I want one quite bad.  I'm thinking of selling my Driving Force and just getting a Pro.

It is USB, and works on the PC with no hacking required.

Being Usb, the xbox uses modified usb ports, shouldnt it just be an easy plug swap to get it working on that?

Nope

Though it is USB, Xbox has no drivers for it (Xbox doesn't use standard HID), and no games on Xbox even support force feedback.

Why one of the pioneers of consumer ff controllers, didn't bother to include support for such devices, on their dedicated gaming machine, is beyond me. MS really dropped the ball on this one.

This is my rather lengthy review of the Logitech NASCAR wheel for XBox:

http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=917892&topic=19209493

I'd have pasted it in here but I had to cut it into parts for the Gamefaqs board....

It's a really good wheel but doesn't vibrate with every game.

The GT Force has the Gran Turismo logo. Other than that it's a blue Logitech Formula Force PC wheel.  ;D

The Driving Force has extra buttons, and a cross pad on it.

The Driving Force Pro owns them both with it's 900 degree steering goodness, fully textured wheel, shifter, better pedals and much more solid feel.
