Buy Resident Evil 4
« on: February 07, 2005, 01:01:26 am »
Hey guys...I'm back...after playing 5 hours straight of Resident Evil 4. Dear lord this is the greatest game ever. I have not played a game that has kept my attention for more than 5 minutes aside from a select few of other A+ titles. This game has great pacing, fast action, unrelenting at that! Its actually scary, my g/f was freaking out watching me play this game. I admit, I jumped a few times. If you are a fan of great videogames do yourself a favor and buy this game and support Nintendo. This in my opinion will be best game of 05. I wish it came out in 04, would have been my choice.

dude, i just beat the game, and yes it is pretty sweet.  only, its not as jump out at you scary as the previous titles.  this one is more "holy crap i didnt think that thing was going to jump on me that fast!"  scary.  but even if you arent scared all that easy, this is easily one of the most intense games ive played.  it really makes you concentrate and watch what you are doing.

but stellarola....

im not going to throw any spoilers in, but after you beat the game, theres a lot of replay value.  and im not talking about just playing the game all over again (although there is incentive to play it again and im not talking about something dumb like "oh hey, your hair is now red...play again!")....but you get extra stuff, that well i wont spoil it but i promise its awesome!

I started playing this last weekend, and my girlfriend is also freaking out when I play it.  She is too scared to play it herself...but she likes to try and solve the puzzle aspects to it.

Dave, lol. My g/f is the same, dude. She likes to solve the puzzle parts in it too. When I tried to get her to play, she refused.

That screenshot of RE4 may have just saved my GameCube....

Wonder if it's out in the UK yet, I'm off to find out.

Edit: not until March 18th apparently :(

Open ended would be a terrible idea for this series. You already have pretty nice area to cover. I wouldnt change a thing about this game...except the menu system. The should make it more Metal Gear Solid-esc. It will never take you out of the action.

BTW have they made use of analog controls yet?  That is the only thing that really bugs me about the RE games.  Especially when you're trying to aim at somthing which is halfway between the 'horizontal' and 'angled' gun positions  >:(

I haven't played it yet, but I believe that you can switch to an over the shoulder, first personish mode that is analog.

I like the realism aspect of the game. If a guy charges at you with a chainsaw, and tries to cut your head off, your neck will resist for a brief moment before your head rolls off in a spray of blood. I like how brain matter is accurately displayed when you blow a head clean off of a body, and the body takes a few more steps before falling. I'd have to say, my favorite aspect of the game is the ability to become a sniper for some parts of the game.  ;D

The controls, in a way, are simliar to the past Resident Evil games. Up goes up, back backsup. Left/Right Turn the character. I kinda like that the movement is restricted. It really makes it more tense for situations. If you could free flow around the area...say a la' Mario, Ratchet and Clank Grand Theft Auto...the fear would not be there. Also the controls when moving the character around are not analog. It only becomes analong when you equip your weapon to aim and or move the camera around. Also this is the longest Resident Evil yet. Even after 22 hours of gameplay, I wanted to play more of the game. It was fantastic replay value as well.

That does it, now I have to get a GameCube!  :P
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

Thanks for the replies about the controls.  Shame the movement isn't analog.  I like the rotate/forward/back controls but wouldn't it be good if the further forward you pressed the faster you run?  They sometimes have a separate run button which to me is nuts.

The aiming control sounds good tho, and I like the sound of the gory realism!  I think I'll keep my GameCube, if only for the RE series! :)

This is one of my top 3 favorite games of all time. Sickeningly good graphics. Cool story. Great action and pace. Mixing a whole bunch of genres without seeming like a chore. Even the Ashley protection missions are fun.

I can't wait for the next iteration. This game was pure genius!!!

My wife gave it to me last night for Valentine's Day.  I've got too much homework tonight, though, and tomorrow night I have to study for my LSAT.  Thursday night will be spent taking a practice LSAT.  So it will go unopened until at least Friday.   :'(

Finally opened the game Friday night.  Mother of god, this is a great game.  So fun.  I've already logged about 18 hours playing it.  I'm not even on the second disc yet.  VERY fun.  It scares the bejeezus out of my wife  ;)
