Replacement rollers for WICO trackball?
(1/1)
colmore:
I've come into posession of a heavily used WICO trackball. The ball and the electronics both appear to be in good working order (the ball is a little stained with age, might replace it with a pool ball) but the rollers need to be replaced for the trackball to work. Is there any way to purchase just replacement rollers?
Also, do WICO trackballs have the same interface as HAPP trackballs? If not has anyone done a successful WICO mouse hack?
Thanks you,
Carter
BobA:
Bob Roberts has wico trackball rollers. Look for trackball parts.

BobA's hack guide is very good, but if you want to save yourself some trouble, you might look at www.oscarcontrols.com's pre-hacked mouse interface for like $9.00.

I prefer to make do with what I already have or can scrounge locally... I think "hacking" a good looking and functional cab will be more fun (and more fitting to my college dropout budget) than buying a bunch of premade parts.
So on that note, I'm happy to report that after spending the morning with my dad's metal grinding tools, I've scraped a lot of the rust off of the rollers and after emptying about half a can of WD40 into the suckers, they're rolling again. It's not like new, but it's better than the trackball in the local bar's Centipede machine, so I'll be happy with it at least for now.
Time to start reading about those hacks...

Not sure you followed what we were saying - we're talking about $10 for rollers and $9.00 for a pre-hacked mouse, as opposed to $4.00 and a couple hours of your time to hack one yourself.
It's your decision, though . ..
