AHHH! I dont know if its just me, but whenever  i tell people about the arcade machine Im building I always get that infamous question "What game is it", Then I try telling them about mame and what it does, and they give me the look like im sticking a playstation in side of a cardboard box. I have to drag them to my house and actually show them for them to understand. I have to show them the cabinet, the coindoor, I have to show them the list of 5000 games, then actually run a few so they know they arent pc remakes or watered down versions. it gets irritating, does anyone else here face this problem too?

I think that's what so cool about our hobby. Most people don't get it, and when they finally do, you end up looking like a rocket scientist.  ;D

the3eyedblindman:
you actually do look like a rocket scientist, its kind of funny...just recently i showed my sister just the computer hooked to the tv, showed her the list of games, ran a few, and she said "your a genious", another infamous question is "how much did all those games cost?" lol, I just get real irritated when people are always asking me what games it is, because untill they see what Im doing, they probably think its kind of lame, a computer in a wooden box...

The average person lacks imagination. Imagine how artists feel. Their work is even more "pointless" in average joe's eyes. You don't know how many times I've heard "you must have alot of time on your hands". Gee thanks. Using creative and intellectual skills are looked down on, yet if I said I go to hockey practice 3 times a week, those same people wouldn't even blink... hitting an object with a stick for some reason is GOOD use of time...

This very question is the reason why I usually label my games with the name of a real game. That way I can say "It's Gorf, but it has been modified to play 75 other games too".
