cab size/design

(1/1)

thrdbace:
before i start sawing....

i want to build a smaller size cabinet with a 19" monitor.  Design/measurements etc.. are baffling me.

1) how do you begin to design some dimensions...i want my cab. no larger than 5'6" tall or so - and obviously it has to be as deep as the monitor...but beyond that, whats the best way to design? (ive looked at a million examples.)
2)  has anyone seen a smaller cabinet like this (not mini, just proportional for a 19" monitor?)

any design issues i should look out for would be greatly appreciated.

My best suggestion is to build a small table to simulate the lower part of the cab, and then mock everything up in cardboard.

I actually built a full rolling table out of 2x4's and plywood, to use as the base of my cab.
Once that was done, I mocked up the sides and top to the rough size/shape I wanted, and then staplegunned these onto the base and taped them all together until I got the dimensions and shape I wanted.

Once I had those dimensions, I cut the plywood for the sides, and screwed them to the rolling table, and then did all the fill-in pieces.

Just look at the plans for Pac-Man cabinets. That will do it for you.

I wonder, why 5'6" tall, you have short ceilings or something?
