Wow a Disc of Tron Environmental model at 3darcade!
« on: September 26, 2002, 05:58:51 am »
Wow!!! Dan Ludemann made one fantastic model of one of the most beautiful if not the most beautiful cab ever Disc's of Tron Environmental. This is a screen capture (from the version with up to 512x512 limited textures tough instead of 256x256 which I put online...works the same on a geforce 4 though ;-) )

hehehe... Yeah I was amazed to find that game, and worked like a dream!

ok, so the marquee I had for this game was this:

So I just took it into PS and made some adjustments:

For those of you that had the same crappy version as me, enjoy!

Does the new one actually show up on the model? Normally it would if the fe finds a marquee or screenshot the one on the model will be replaced or create one when createmarquee is on...but I thought Dan used a hidden dummy on this one making that the marquee won't change...

Dammit, you're right. i just went to check and it is the old one. what a bummer. maybe he will update it??? Crap.

Oh well, I also have this new Tron marquee if anyone wants it:

I actually went and found new versions on a bunch of marquees, and made adjustments, etc.. I will probably keep doing these and offer up a zip file eventually.

(By the way as far as I konw only this and the sinistarcockpit will not replace the bitmap. In fact they will but on a hidden part of the model :-) )

AWW, ya beat me!!  >:(  I was gonna do DOT, when I got the time...  I've been so busy finishing my REAL cab, maybe everything else I wanna do will be built by the time I'm free to do any modeling...  :P  Nice work Dan!!

Meantime, check this out:  I've done lots of work in films, trying to make CG look real, but this is the first time I've actually made something that started in CG into reality!

CG on the left, actual cab on the right.  Came out pretty close, don't ya think??  ;)

(I know, this is totally off-topic -- I'm just a shameless showoff!)

yeah that is very easy just at one bone to the cp part and rotate it ;-)

See Disc of tron online with my new modelviewer...which also has a different purpose ;-)

Maybe my modeliing contribution will be to take some of the Max models of the cabs, and make non-playable ones that are being hogged by some players!  They'll be children of whatever cab, and they just stay in the same spot, playing, bashing the machine, etc.   Then I'll have to make a babe or two with Atari t-shirts or something...  Ahh, reminds me of when I was 12, and there was a real well-developed girl from school who started playing Popeye with me...  Heheh! ;D

Hehe  :D

actually at the moent it is better to just group them and make the cab the root bone...thios way it will export as one model..no childs to trace in the fe...at the moment repeatingly loading a cab wilth child will work ie removed from the scene and videoram but will  leave copys in ram...

Here is an example:

I linked all the geometry of the bottom part of mappy to the root bone and all geometry of the marquee part to  a child bone and rotated that...then I grouped everything together...that will exports as one model...

Whoa, what the hell?  :o  I get what you're saying about bones.  Bones still have a hierarchy too, so you can call them parents and children, etc.  I just meant I'd link the people to the cabs.  BTW, is there a way to have sounds linked to certain models, and have them grow and fade as you get closer / farther away from that model?  It might be cool to give the players some synced sound effects...  ;)

Hehe...a rotating marquee like that would have attracted lot of attention  ;)

Not yet...but I plan to do that...as one of the properties you can give to a model...
In the cylarcade there is a little sound interaction...the sound of the realvideo will play louder when you zoom in on the model and when you zoom out vice vera and blend more with the background sounds  :)

Although I haven't even started yet... I am working on collecting data for a galaxy force 2 cockpit and an afterburner/afterburner 2 cockpit.  Both of those have motion simulation and I will animate the attract sequence. :D
