Strange screws in RootBeer Tapper Cab

(1/2) > >>

Evil Otto:
Hello,

First of all, I am mechanically feeble-minded for the most part.  That being said, I am trying to remove the molding (or whatever it is called) above and below the marquee on my rootbeer tapper cab.  The screws look like something that an allen wrench would handle, but here is the problem - the screws all have a small piece of metal in the center preventing the screwdriver or allen wrench from being inserted.  Kind of like a little spike sticking out.  I understand there are other ways of removing screws - pliers and whatnot, but I am wondering if there is a special tool that will easily remove them.  It is not an emergency that I remove them and I do not want to cause damage to the machine.  I know a photo would be helpful, but I cannot post one now and I don't know if it will show up anyway b/c screws are pretty small.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You can get a tool that fits those screws...  its like an alan wrench with a hole in the middle.

I have removed a few of these by hammering the centre pin down with a nail, and then using a bit which looks the same, without the pin-hole (I happened to have this tool).  Some bolts have a soft metal pin, which is easily flattened, but some are pigs.  Either way, get the proper tool if possible.

i believe they are known as security bits..

Thanks for all the help.  Now that I have the buzz words, I think I know what to look for.
