Wiring Help; mother board switch

(1/1)

truz206:
Just putting some finishing touches on my cocktail cabinet and am looking to wire a button to power on my pc (its out of its case).

Right now i have the two wires coming from the power pins on the motherboard and two turn the cab on i just touch the two wires together. Its a cheap hot wiring solution that i am looking to improve.

So a couple days ago at radio shack i picked up this switch.

Radio Shack link

Now i just grabbed this switch because i was in a rush, so i dont know if it is the proper switch and will work to power on my pc. Can i use this type of switch and if so how would i wire it? I'm kind of lost when it comes to wiring stuff. I tried just hooking each wire to each on of the plugs on the switch, obviously that didnt work because it closed the circuit and turned on the pc. Any help would be appreciated.

I believe you need a momentary switch for an atx computer instead of the spst switch.  A standard arcade button will work, or you can get a small button similiar to that.  Make sure to get one that doesn't click into and out of position if that makes sense.

I believe this is answered in the FAQ.
