Project Announcement: Dream Machine
« on: July 17, 2004, 02:42:36 pm »
Like many, I have just completed a rather lengthy design period and outside of a few posts here and there on the message board, I have been mpostly a lurker, ready posts and checking out the example systems. Now that the design phase is over though, and I have begun purchasing all the materials I decided it was time to announce the cab to you guys.

The Dream Machine
[/b]

The Dream Machine is named for a local arcade which I frequented during my pre-teen/teenage years which has since closed. The cabinet itself is going to be a modification of the Ultimate Arcade II plans, however I intent to make the top half removable for easy transportation. The color scheme includes black sparkle finish laminate for the lower bottom halves and scratched purple finish laminate for the top half sides. The front of the machine shall be covered in Storm Grey laminate.

It will be a two player CP, with 2-7 button set-ups w/ 360 Perfect joysticks, a trackball with 3 mouse buttons, 2 pinball buttons, 4 system buttons (pause and exit on the CP face and the other 2 on the sides), a tornado spinner and E-stik 4-way joystick.

The Cabinet and front end (Dragon King) will both prominently feature the demon hunter Shion from Masamune Shirow's Hellhound Posterbooks.

The computer itself is a P4 2.6 GHz with a 100 GB harddrive, 512 MB DDR-2700 RAM, Audigy sound card, Klipsch 2.1 speakers, ATI Radeon 9600 Video card w/ TV out hooked up to a Toshiba 27" TV. The system will run MAME .84u2 and Daphne (gotta love dragon's lair)

I just recently finished the overlay for the CP as well as the frontend screen. I am now working on the marquee and the side art.

Attached is the CP design.

Masamune Shirow is the man!  (In case anyone's wondering, he' the guy who did that artwork)

That looks really good.  Ahh... I get it, distract your friends with the girl, then waste them while they're off guard, right?  ;D

The its not from an anime, it is a series of poster books that Shirow put out called Hellhound. Its a lesser known series compared to his others like Galhound, Wild Wet West and Wild Wet Quest, and Hell Cat. The character's name is Shion. Oh, and yeah, I do what I can to distract my friends, but I made sure there was no nudity in any of the pictures ;op. Oh and as for the front end screen, check this out ;op

@#*! I wish women looked that hot in real life!  Shirow's GOOD!  I feel funny, like when we used to climb the rope in gym class (Wayne's World joke, BTW)!

That's pretty awesome man, I love masamune shirow.  Did you have to scan those picture yourself or did you find a URL online with hi-res scans?  That's going to look really slick when it's all done.

The artwork was all found online. The one site i found that was of particular use to me was http://mshirow.free.fr/ Most of the scans on this site are scanned at 96 dpi, but have very large demensions, and look good after you convert them to 300 dpi. That is what i did for all of these images.
