Question about my tv i just bought.

<< < (4/5) > >>

Darkstalker:
"The yellow jacket is usually reserved (at least in my experience) for the regular RCA video connection grouped with the red and white stereo cables."

Or S/PDIF, but that looks more like a short RCA connection with a really thin wire shield.

The only "yellow" S-Video cable I have seen is the Monster Cable version which has a little yellow stripe around it...

...otherwise they are all black.

Check your user manual to see if your TV has an S-Video input, or if you can't find that, check out your TV to see if it has a port like Hoagie_one posted.  If not, looks like you are SOL...

the3eyedblindman:
Ok i dont care what color the cables are, my main concern is getting this up and running, if i dont have S video, is there anyway i could buy the input separate and hook it up to my tv, or is there anything else i could do to get this tv to work with my pc.?

pointdablame:
Ok, since you just want to cut to the chase.... if you don't have Svideo, you are screwed.  End of story.  Bring the TV back.

As I said, if there is an adapter to convert RCA to Svideo (don't know off hand) you would be degrading an already fuzzy and fairly low quality picture.  Your cabinet would look like utter crap, no offense.  It is not worth even trying at all IMHO.

So... look for an Svideo connection on the back of the TV. We have posted pictures for you.  It'll look similar to a computer PS/2 port.  If you don't have one, bring it back to the store.  Otherwise, you will more than likely not be able to get it working AT ALL, and if you do, the picture quality would be atrocious.

Darkstalker - I have seen the same cable, although I didn't think it necessary to bring up SP/DIF in here, seeing as the OP didn't even know what a Svideo cable was ;)  But you are correct, they can use yellow as well.

Craig:
I use composite and it works fine. The only thing that doesn't look good is the Windows desktop; games are good. How much quality difference would the desktop be if it was svideo? I use a svideo to RCA adaptor.

This should be in the monitor/video forum.

What type of connections on your TV do you have for video?
Did the box your tv came have svideo printed on it anywhere?
What make/model is your tv?  Check to see if the manufacturer has a website and search by the model number.

We even went as far as to explain the differences in the cable types.  The rest is up to you...
Do you want Svideo?
To you have an svideo connector?
Can you still take the tv back if SVideo is your priority?

If you don't have svideo and you can take the tv back and you want svideo, then take the TV back and get one with svideo.

If you can't, you can by composite to Svideo adapter cables.  Or you can buy a video switch box that will support composite and SVideo as another issue.

You do have options.
