Do you think this will work? No bezel, painted monitor.

Ok, I want some opinions on this before I just go ahead and paint my monitor so here goes...

I was thinking, insted of putting in a bezel, I'll use tinted glass and just set the monitor behind it

Wow, a BYOAC member who DOESN'T have black spray paint on hand at all times?  ;D

I paint the case of EVERY monitor I install in a game now, no matter how it is mounted, as I don't want anything slipping in the future and showing that white monitor case (that visible white monitor case is the number one thing that makes a lot of Mame cabinets look bad).

But, taking the front plastic off the monitor and mounting the tube (and the rest of the monitor case) to a piece of wood is a much better solution.

crashwg:
I'm kinda worried about not getting the monitor placement/angle exactly right the first time, so mounting it kinda seems too much of a perminant solution.  Also, there's no room for speakers in the "normal" area above the monitor so I was planning on putting them beside the monitor, would that be more of a problem with the speakers being right next to it.

The speakers will most likely be something like this: http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.jsp?c=1&b=g&u=c&catoid=-11322&qp=0&oid=70448&m=0, because not only do I not have any room above the monitor, I only have 2 1/8" on either side of the monitor for speakers.  Come to think of it, I'm not sure even those speakers will fit...  :-\

And just in case you were wondering how I plan to get the sound out, I'm thinking about having a patern of holes wattercut where the speakers will be.

SkateDetroit:
If you're already taking it apart I would mount it without the casing. Looks a THOUSAND times better. Just measure each side and you'll be fine.

flampoo:
I've always been antsy around monitors. I'm aware that they can retain a strong amount of power so I've been hesitant to remove the casing and mount the tube.
Does someone have a pictoral or visual description on the parts of a CRT you shouldn't touch?
