Arcade Cab - Inbuilt speakers or PC Speakers...
timsatari:
Hi all
Would like to get some feedback on the sound for your cabs - what's generally preferred - built in speakers via jamma or pc speakers inside your cab... As Jamma is mono only (I think..) would it be better to mount pc speakers inside your cab? Would this be more versatile for other pc applications as well anyway...
thanks!
Superdude:
The speakers on the Jamma Cab are not the best. However they are made for the machine. You can go mono in mame and use the speaker ya with an amplifer or hacked speakers to the original. If you place PC speakers inside you might get too much bass and rattle. You can always hack a set of PC speakers to connect to the jamma ones to stereo which is probably a nice option.

My Jamma Cab has 2 speakers. Don't know if it's stereo or not but there's volume controls for each one. Anyway, I bought a cheap set of PC speakers and ripped the actual speakers out. I wired the speaker box (basically just the amp) to the same type of Molex connector my cab speaker wiring uses and that way I can use the cab speakers from my PC in stereo for MAME or plug them back into the cab wiring for JAMMA games.

This may be a little off topic but is still related.. some what. Has anybody just used their TV speakers for their cab?

I thought about it, but I wanted speakers with a bit more "punch" so I used a set of Creative PC speakers. The plus side of using TV speakers is that you wouldn't have to wire up a remote volume knob - you could just use your TV remote. The only thing that might kill it for you is that the speakers might sound muddled once they're behind plexi though.
