Undecided: What Joysticks to get

(1/4) > >>

Hi,

I'm building a CP for vertical games only. The CP will be made from 3/4" wood.
So thats mainly vert shooters (my favorite) and some 4-way classics.

So I need to get two 8xWay and one 4xWay joysticks.

I'm not sure what sticks to get. I've read plenty of posts on the subject but am still undecided. Bearing in mind what the cp is for ( vertical shooters and classics). Can anyone recommend anything ?

BTW - I don't like the T-Stick. Have one in my SikStik panel and its way to stiff for my liking.

Ideas much appreciated :)

Apart from the T-Stick, I like the original Wico Leafs best. There is an auction for red ballhandle 4-ways going on ebay.

Did you put the T-Stick in the SlikStik panel yourself? I thought they came with Happ (Competition?) joysticks.

You can find a lot of info about joystick selection on this forum. If you use the search function you should be able to find at least 4 or 5 recent threads on this subject.

Thanks.

I got the new SlikStik single unit.
The T-Stick is the second stick on the panel.

I tried the search and have read a few posts alright but am still undecided.

I think I am leaning towards Supers for the 8-Ways and J-Stick for the 4-Way.

The Omni-Stik or Omni-Stik Prodigy from www.groovygamegear.com could be good choices, short throw, moderate spring pressure.

Supers for 8-ways are probably more similar to what you find in the arcades (actually ultimates in the arcades, but supers are better.).

Personally, I think the Omni-Stik (or Euro-Stick) is a better choice for 4-way games than the J-Stick.  What I've read of the J-Stick is long travel, light spring pressure, and ability to hit diagonals (occasionally).  All bad for 4-way games.  Some people swear by them, though.

If you like a loose joystick... happs ultimates are pretty loose.

Do you like corners or smooth spin?  I personally like smooth for vertical flight games myself.  If so, Happs supers are pretty nice (but a little stronger then ultimages... but not that stiff).

Next.. for 4 ways.  If money isn't an issue (and your not going with a T-Stick)  I would recommend a Happs new pacman joystick.  They play great!   But you do need the mounting plate.  But I think they are so much better then wicos 4way leaf that its worth it... the price might not though.
