Donkey-Tron Frog Fighter 4078: Further into Unknown World! (NOW WITH PICTURES!)

Ok, I was contacted by a local guy looking for his first game. After some discussion we decided what would be right for him based on what games he wanted, and what cabinets I had on hand.

He selected a Frogger cabinet that had been converted to "Darwin 4078". He further selected an NOS Road Fighter artwork kit that I had "in stock". For controls he selected one 8-way top fire, one 4-way, 4 buttons and a single spinner, along with a USB port on the front of the cabinet.

And since I simply can't let customers have things that I don't own myself, I had to order an extra set of top fires for myself, an extra keywhiz Max, and will probably order an extra Oscar spinner.

Ok, mostly done with paint and bodywork. Ringed the very bottom with 2x4s and put new plastic slider feet on those.

My corner protectors from Bob Roberts showed up today, so they will get installed after I get off work.

I mostly got the control panel done today. After peeling off the overlay I found it was actually a Moon Cresta cabinet and not a Frogger. I was also slightly pissed when I tried my Tac/Scan panel on the cabinet and found out that it fit perfectly.

I covered over the original metal panel with 28 gauge sheet metal so that the holes from the previous two incarnations would not be an issue.

And once again, I will attempt to snap a few photos of the finished project before the customer picks it up.

There are two very good reasons I don't provide pictures that often.

#1. My digital camera is a terrible webcam that only seems to take good pictures outside.

Invest in a decent digital camera.  And I do mean 'invest.'  I can not believe how beneficial our camera has been.  It's a Fuji FinePix 3800.  You can get its offshoot, the S3000, for ~$250 or so.  One time investment, unless you break it, or decide to upgrade.

Only at work, right?  Can't help with this one, but since you post pretty often they must not have problems with you doing it @ work.

Well, I did just make a major investment in a used Thinkpad (P3 700, 256 MB RAM, 15" display, yadda yadda yadda). So it might be a while before I can afford a new camera. Although the thinkpad does help in that it gives me something that I can easily bring to work to post from (and to post pictures from).

Your kidding right? After the how the last fuji POS busted on you? Man I have sworn off fuji for life! I make to tell all my students and servicemembers how much fuji bites the big one! We recently bought new video equipment for our school and I made sure none of it was fuji. They should call it poo-ji!

It 'busted' because it was dropped, and rather harshly by my one year old.  Using the help of a guy that fixes a model similar to this one, I got the camera apart (a seemingly inoperable lens unit) and it's now working again.

Maybe off-topic (allthough there doesn't seem to be much topic), but I'm not such a fan of Fuji camera's either. They all seem like cheap knock offs to me. Everything about their stuff breaths "this was made in Cheapland". I specifically hate their false megapixel claims (that actually seem to fool people)! I just did a photoshoot for someone who asked me to use his camera (Fuji S7000). To say it politely ... I really didn't like that camera at all    Just pay that little bit extra and buy a Canon or Nikon or if you must go cheaper then try Sony, Minolta or Olympus instead. :rant mode off:

I spent 3 hours working on this last night.

I got the new t-molding on. You have NO IDEA what colored t-molding does for a plain black cabinet. It looks awesome.

I also completed making the control panel, installing the controls and overlay, but I have not wired it yet.

I am also going to make an attempt at purchasing a digital camera after I get off work today.

I have to agree, I wish I had used colored t-molding on my first cab.    Your cab looks really sharp so far.

I agree as well, the blue t-molding really brought my solid black cab to life.

I finished the control panel wiring today, It all terminates in a 16 pin molex connector. I still need to wire up the other side of the connector to the I-Pac.
