GroovyMAME 0.284 - CRT EmuDriver and Fatal Fury Wild Ambition
« on: January 08, 2026, 06:32:58 pm »
Hi everybody,

First of all happy new year 2026 and thanks a lot to Calamity for the great job bringing us new versions of GroovyMAME  :applaud:

I just finalized the setup of my GroovyMAME 0.284 with latest version of CRT EmuDrivers with my ATI Radeon R9 380X and my Arcade CRT VGA TriSync 29 inches Monitor Wei-Ya M3129 and everything works perfectly fine!

I noticed a strange visualization problem with just one Hyper Neo Geo 64 game: Fatal Fury Wild Ambition

The game is perfectly playable and runs smooth, but the in game picture has some constant micro shakings and it is really difficult to read characters with small fonts (like the credits count) due to this constant shaking.

I made a short movie record about what I'm telling about and I'm attaching it to this post.

Here you can also find a picture related to the GroovyMAME game loading screen, containing info about the Video Resolution.

Please consider that this DOES NOT happen with other Hyper Neo Geo games, such as Samurai Shodown 64, Roads Edge, Buriki One.. it seems switchres currently switches those other games to 480p making them visually stable and without shakings, even if I noticed SEVERE slowdowns during gameplay (Slowdowns DO NOT affect Fatal Fury Wild Ambition instead that runs smoothly at 60 frames per second).

Any ideas on how to solve this problem with Fatal Fury Wild Ambition that's causing me vision issues?  :dizzy:

Any idea about the Slowdowns that are affecting all other Hyper Neo Geo 64 games?

Thanks a lot in advance!!!

Hi everyone, any kind feedback or suggestions here?

Please consider I just tried to load the same Hyper Neo Geo 64 games using legacy standard MAME64 0.284 and there are NO problems at all.

The string characters are perfectly readable (no shaking) in Fatal Fury Wild Ambition and all of them, including Buriki One and Samurai Showdown 64, run smoothly at 60fps without any slowdown.

So, this is not a problem of my Hardware specs (core i7 10700K and 32GB RAM) or MAME related. It should be something related to CRTEmuDriver, SwitchRes or GroovyMAME configuration.

Could it be possible those games are loaded with interlaced resolution that is not compatible with my TriSync monitor?

Please, I need your kind support.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi everybody once again!

Other quick update about my Tests with GroovyMAME 0.284.

The problem is not related to Hyper Neo Geo 64 platform only! Here are some evidences after several tests:

Some Sega Model 2 games work perfectly fine, such as Virtua Fighter 2, The House of the Dead, Virtua Cop 2 or Dead or Alive
Other Sega Model 2 games are Unplayable due to MASSIVE and continuous slowdowns. This happens in GunBlade NY, Virtua Striker, Dead or Alive (Rev C). It seems like those games are running at 25 fps and the audio is distorted and slowed down as well!

I also tried Time Crisis 2 and even if the game starts and runs initially fine, there are MASSIVE slowdowns during some game scenes, such as in Stage 1 just after jumping from the balcony.

Then, I executed the same tests using standard vanilla MAME 0.284 (no CRT Emudriver of course and no switchres) and all those games run smoothly at 60fps with NO slowdowns!!

Could it depend by some wrong setting into my MAME INI file? Please consider I'm using the default one, edited by VMMaker when I install the Modelines.

I'm attaching my MAME INI file here to let you inspect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks a lot in advance!

Best regards

Calamity

Hi cloud79,

Regarding the interlaced mode, if yours is a multi-sync monitor, set the correct preset in mame.ini, like arcade_15_31 instead of arcade_15. That will unlock 480p if that's what you want.

Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

Dear Calamity,

Thank you so much for your kind reply!

It "seems" I solved the problem few hours ago.
Please, consider the game slowdowns affected many other games, including Sega ST-V Platform! For instance, I tried Die Hard Arcade and after the very first game area on the terrace, when you enter in the first room with two big fans, both audio and fps started to degrade quickly!
By following your old suggestions in other thread related to game issues, I tried to modify my GroovyMAME mame.ini file, changing the following values:

changeres: from 1 to 0 (to avoid some ST-V games switch between different resolutions)
autosync: from 1 to 0 (to enable triplebuffer manually)

And adding the following:

triplebuffer              1

Now, it seems that all previously mentioned games are running at full speed, without slowdowns and without audio distortion.
It's weird because I'm running on a PC equipped with Intel Core i7 10700K Unlocked, 32GB DDR4 RAM and ATI Radeon R9 380X OC with latest CRT EmuDrivers, so my PC specs "should be" enough for games so old like Model 2 and ST-V!

Finally, monitor setting in mame.ini is currently set to "custom" and it was set by VMMaker when I installed Modelines, by specifying the location of GroovyMAME executable and by checking the "Export settings to GroovyMAME" in the last MAME Tab of VMMaker Settings. Do you think it's better to use the suggested arcade_15_31 value? Please consider my Arcade CRT TriSync VGA Monitor is a Wei-Ya M3129.

Thank you so much!

Best regards.
