HOW DO I SETUP THE COIN OPERATION?

(1/1)

marknetwork:
Hello,

Do you guys know where I can get some sort of coin operation that can be setup with the x-arcade or right to the PC for my MAME arcade machine?  I plan on using MAME32 but I would really like to have it actually accept coins for fun.  What do most people do?

I'm using MAME32 and the X-arcade dual controller, and I'd like the arcade machine to accept coins instead of using a button...or maybe both whatever is easiest.  Any suggestions?

Thank you so much!
Mark

Not sure if this will answer your question....

As long as you understand how a pushbutton/joystick works, using a coin door/box/whatever works the same; they all use microswitches connected to a keyboard encoder that translates the push of a pushbutton into a keyboard keystroke.

To re-iterate, when you push a button, or press a direction on a joystick, it basically is turned into a simple keyboard keystroke.   When you drop a coin in, it translates into a keystroke.

So, you just have to wire up the coin door microswitches to translate into keystrokes "1" and "2" since MAME uses these for coin inputs (via keyboard encoder which I think your xarcade has in it).

Hope I didn't misunderstand your question....

I completely understand!!  Now I just have to find the wires....

Do you know where I could buy a complete coin kit or something so I dont have to find each piece by itself?  The one I have is too old and wrecked its not worth fixing.  What pieces do I need?

Thanks,
Mark
