Groovymame does not launch after installl from scratch
« on: January 13, 2025, 01:46:43 am »
I have an Intel i5-3470 running Windows 10 with a Radeon HD 6450. Im using Groovymame .202. I have crt emulator already installed. I alreqdy set up VMMaker and created all the resolutions and installed. When i run mame, it just kind of flickers and then nothing. Im connected to a Sony CRT TV with vga to scart. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Delete mame.ini
From command line from the mame directory, type "mame.exe -cc" to generate a new one.
Open VMMaker, open config, check last tab, make sure "export monitor settings to Groovymame" box is checked and your mame.exe is selected. Click OK.
Take notice of the message "Exporting settings to mame.ini...".
If you have your roms in a non-default location, you may need to update the ROMS directory.

If that doesn't work then generate a log file. Instructions are at the bottom of all Calamity's posts.

@Zebidee when i try to create a log, im typing groovymame.exe -v sfchamp >sfchamp.txt. It says groovymame.exe is not recognized as an internal or external command. I thought i had to type run: first and said same thing.

So i got it to work, but now just having issues with Switchres getting the right resolutions. When i ran vmmaker to create the resolutions, it only installed like 10 resolutions. So a lot of games start up with the wrong resolution.

Looks like Switchres is working as it should, choosing the best from limited available options.

VMMaker will make the modes you ask it to. You can specify those in the "user_modes.ini" file, which you can add/edit from within VMMaker. The format is straightforward.

Best idea would be to enable super modes. Then you edit the "user_modes - super.ini" instead. Otherwise same as above.

How do some folks get 120 different resolutions when they create the resolutions in VMMaker?

Betters question is "why?".

You won't ever need more than 20-30 anyway. 120 is max possible I think, but it slows switchres and God knows what else.

Probably formatting or redundancy, but I dunno.

Good thing is that you can generate new sets of modes until the cows come home, but they are only theoretical. Your video modes won't change until you install them. So experiment a bit to see what works for you.
