Dragons Fury custom controller
« on: November 30, 2024, 05:41:50 am »
This is the most fun I've had with a project for ages. And only took about a week. It's a custom controller for ONE game on the Sega Megadrive(Dragons Fury ).

I lifted the complete skull from thingyverse, and, in Tinkercad sliced the face off and hollowed it out, as well as slicing 3mm off the resulting controller for a backplate. Controls are:
Eyes- FLIPPERS
Nose bone - START
Shake- TILT

I Also printed simple buttons to interface with the PCB of the hacked controller on the reverse side so you can enter a high score. This is actually a really nice way of playing it. Believe it or not it's quite ergonomic (if you squint you can imagine the eyes and cheek.bones are like the original kidney shaped controller). And of course shaking for TILT is much more intuitive than stabbing the A button 😊

I had no idea you were so cool.

LMK if you want a PC Engine controller PCB.  I bought parts to make 10 of them and then everyone ghosted me.  I have two preassembled and tested.   ::)  Probably cheaper to make your own than for me to ship it to you, though.

I don't have a PC engine, but it's not beyond the realms that I'll get one one day. Does that controller use a logic chip like the Megadrive controller? Like a 74H type of chip?

Oh, and you might think this is cool, but in Reddit this is being outvoted 3 to 1 by a guy who posted a picture of the Genesis he just bought.

I guess I should have just said I bought this controller 🙄
