MegaTough Force 2011 without key
« on: August 03, 2024, 10:19:46 am »
I’m confused about all the posts saying there isn’t a way to play Megatouch Force games without a key. I just ordered a keyless harddrive on ebay with Force 2011, replacing my Force 2004.5 and it booted without any issues, all the games are playable, fast, and I’ve had 0 issues. It seems like this would be a good option for all of the people who have keys with dead batteries.

the law requires that i say that it's not that there isn't a way... it's that there is currently not legal way to do it.

you do you, but you are buying stolen software. If you have a key for 2011 that stopped working, then sure, buy (or hack for yourself) the modified software to get your system working again. You still have a "key" for your software. But since you are using it for a "free" upgrade to a version you aren't "entitled" to, this makes it legally no bueno. you have a key for software... but not the software you have in your possession. What you have essentially done is give your money to someone to steal the software for you. (who didn't pay for it or even put in the work to modify the software originally anyway.) These sellers often get shut down for copyright infringement for obvious reasons.

for now. people have absolutely encountered issues. it might not be now, and it might not be later. You simply can't know. there have been reports of people playing a game or a certain number of rounds in a certain game (or something like that) and having the system lock out due to a key error cause all the checks didn't get patched out.

The best option for someone with a dead battery in their security key would be to replace the key with another. While not without its own set of pitfalls, it's currently the only 100% legal and the only 100% known working solution. While i realize you would be buying a key that has an almost dead or dying battery as well... it's really the only legal option currently.

there seems to be a backup solution on the ION to dump a copy of the security key onto the system... so if the key does fail, it will read off the stored keydata. it's possible that someone may work on something like that will work with force systems.

i'm not without my own set of pirate software and i'm not here to judge you or your decisions, but the rule regarding software here does specifically say

Quote
Need a ROM to repair an arcade board you own? Fine to talk about. Need a ROM to complete your MAME collection? Don't bother to post here.

IE, data you would be entitled to is fine...(like the software you need to fix your 2004 drive) but data you're not entitled to is not. (like having a key for 2004 but getting software for 2011)

so until the day i can convince AMI to relinquish their copyright on the software (and believe me, i've asked them...several times in fact.) or the copyright on it expires (2014 software is currently sitting at expiring in 2109, unless disney makes a law change AGAIN when some asset they own nears public domain), I have to say you must have the proper security key for the version of software you are running or attempt to run.

Let us know when you start to see the troll copy protection crash messages

My favorite is "graphics overclock error - contact technical support" .

good to know, i was unsure of the ins and outs of that patch. I'm sure this particular type of software is fine here, as you still need an original security key to dump the backup and it does not allow you to run without the key in place (as far as i'm aware) so you wouldn't be able to "borrow a key to install" kind of thing.

Negative. Key Saver is key specific. It dumps a keys data ( encrypted ) and reads the serial of the key which doesnt require a battery ( its hard coded ) No reason to run keyless with Key Saver, unless you are a pirate that doesnt want to run legit. And i would not help anyone that asks me to help them. ( you wouldn't belive how many cheap @ssholes that ask me, LOL.
