Ond:
For those who like to read, a project post on some thoughts, learnings etc. so far.  For the more picture oriented, yes yes soon, Ond will provide. Hah, a wall of text follows (not my usual style).

As I rebuild the back box and test I’m also keeping my favorite tables as up to date as possible. Once you have some sort of virtual pinball machine built, you can enjoy the ongoing (amazing) development of tables by some very talented people. The virtual pinball scene just keeps improving in terms of table quality and the game play experience.  There is plenty of mediocre content as well but every now and then a table crops up that really impresses.  I think jeremymtc alluded to it, it’s an ongoing hobby of discovery.

With the build updates the cabinet has a better cleaner more powerful sound.  I’ve replaced cheaper power supplies with better open frame ones.  The two amps, one for the subby and one for the speakers can call on about 300 watts of clean power if needed.

One thing leads to another… I started exploring better sound options for tables where available. There aren’t that many, but some games have alt sound options as an alternative to the lower quality ROM sounds.  Terminator 2 is a great example.  This table was recently updated and has alt sounds available. On a 4K playfield with high quality sound a whole new level of game play experience can be had.  Playing this I just kept muttering “wow, wow”. Thundering sounds of Arnold Schwarzenegger against music and effects from terminator.  The table quality itself is just on another level as well.

I’ve resolved all hum issues that were bugging me.  With two amps any hum at input gets to be a problem. Originally on power-up the loud hum would only stop once Windows was running. I replaced some cables with better shielded ones and then went the extra step of switching on/off both amps when my FE was running. Some PowerShell scripting which runs from PinballX, an Arduino controlled relay (which monitors a COM port for the script and voila! No more hum issues.  The machine now boots silently until the PinballX menu appears then launches cleanly into ambient music. On power down the script turns off both amps as soon as the FE closes. If anyone wants more details of that setup you will need to ask me.

I’m up to painting stage on the back box. Next update will be when I’m finished that.
