  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
What's everyone's go to for original Xbox controller breakout encoders?

I took the guts out of the Sony SCPH-1110 dual joystick and want to put a controller board in it that works on the Xbox.

I originally stuffed a hard wired original controller S PCB strait up in it and it worked like a champ but it took me some time doing it all manual and custom.

All I can say is you never played Mech assault proper until you have played it on one of my setups 😎

Based on a few pictures of the guts of that controller, it will be easy to connect to the potentiometers, but tapping into the buttons on the PCB might be tricky.   :dunno

If you want to try an Arduino-based encoder, check out either Bruno's XBOXPadMicro . . .
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,152687.0.html
. . . the XInput version of the firmware for the Micro . . .
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,152687.msg1634808.html#msg1634808
. . . imp's XInput version of the firmware for Pro Micro . . .

. . .  or Bruno's KADE miniArcade 2.0.
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,154126.0.html

XBOXPadMicro:
- Tested working and documented with the Arduino Micro or Pro Micro.
- Has several XInput firmware versions.
- Have to edit source and compile to customize pin/port assignments.

KADE miniArcade 2.0:
- Tested working and documented with many more 32u4 boards.
- Has no XInput firmware versions.
- Don't have to edit source and compile to customize pin/port assignments.
