Joystick directions different for some games

Hi like the title says on some games left is left and right is right but on some games i press right on the joystick and it goes up and i press up and the joystick and it goes right?
 Can you help?

I have an arcade cabinet running a pc using hyperspin

Adjusting controls in mame is pretty easy. Press TAB and look for the game's input settings.
