My CP too big?
Silverwind:
My CP is 4 foot wide also.. partly because hey the sheet of plywood was 4 foot wide.. less cutting..
but mostly I wanted a lot of room... i've been in many an arcade where you are playing (insert fighting game here) and the guy next to you is hogging all the room.. i've tried it out with a few friends and it seems pretty comfortable..
I haven't built the cab yet just the CP.. when I hook it up I'll decide if I want to scale it down or not..
PacManess:
Well, it's finally come to this....
My 4 footer wasn't working, and it really didn't act like it was going to start anytime soon. It could be wiring, it could be the IPAC, I just dont' know...so here's what I'm going to do....
I ordered the Keywiz Max, and I am going to just rebuild the whole thing. This way, well, things will go a little smoother hopefully.
I've reduced the size of the board (in planning anyway) to 28" long and 12" deep. So a little over half the size of the monster. The monster, by the way, will burn. Because it has done made me mad.
Anyway, I've also decided to make both sticks on the left and both sets of buttons on the right. The thing that changed my mind on that is the fear of the joystick arms. I can't remember who made this point, but it is a great point, and that point is...um...it was...oh, it was that arms be flailing and bumping and stuff. And no one wants that.
So yeah, good times. In a few days we'll give this another go. I'll post pics on a website so I can bore everyone with them. Good times again.
Thanks for all the CP love.

well.... if your panel doesn't work.... I doubt its because that piece of wood is wrong... most likely.. because either wiring or the ipac (you said you auctioned buy it.. right ??) is bad...
I would say... keep that wood for now... keep the stick and buttoms there for now... if wires are still there... keep them for now.... when the keywiz arrives, take out the ipac and do some simple testing with keywiz....
then at least you know what you did wrong....
to me... the panel is big or small... it depends on how much space you can afford, how much space you're willing to spend, and your own preference... I personally might find your panel a little too big... but if you like it... who cares ?!?!
good luck... ;) ;)
MiKman:
I have a 44" control panel at the widest point. 2 player (8-way) 1-4way, trackball and a spinner. I think it all depends on the size of the cabinet that it's going on. asthetically my panel 'fits' the cabinet that it's on. here is an old picture
