Golden Tee Fore CGA to VGA converter.
« on: February 28, 2017, 11:47:29 pm »
Has anyone tried hooking up a newer HDTV to the golden tee fore board? I know you can hook a PC monitor directly to the video cards VGA output but it won't work on a TV. I'm going to try a cheap GBS 8200 type converter as I have read a couple of mixed options on if this will work or not. I'm hoping someone has had success that they would like to share. Thanks  :afro:

ok in pm i said i never did it
but i do have to point out to u
the sync vrt is different in freq then normal
if u have done lcd ? then u know some of them u must acess there advanced menu to re-sync it
or u will get out of range
on hdtv this will cause it to go to stand-by=portect
that in its self is the reason i never tried it.

Thanks Ed, I Am not familiar with Linux or how to update drivers. I bought a used GBS-8200 cga to vga converter  board. I finally got it running stable but the video quality is not good on a LED TV. I have googled everything about this board and have messed with the setttings and have had no luck, looks like a lot of noise passing through or something. Not sure if it is the used board or just the unit itself . I may have to give in and just get a PC monitor. I'm running out of patience on this one.

Did you use a converter or just plug plasma right in to the video card vga?

I am having success with one of those boards.  However, I am going into a VGA Arcade monitor.  I did have it hooked to an LED screen previously and it looked OK but the colors were not that vibrant.  Greens and blues were difficult to distinguish.  That said, if you have an LED monitor that lets you adjust colors individually (RGB settings), it would probably look great.  I'm not sure if they even make an LED monitor with these adjustments.  But if you have the GT Fore! hardware, these boards will have you up and running for not much $$$.

I got mine working! I had no luck with direct vga to vga. I had to use the CGA wiring from the Jamma and all is well! Thanks for all the advise!

Nice.  From the picture, the colors look pretty good.  In the course overview window (bottom left), when there is water and lava rock that come together, are you able to tell the difference?  This was the only downside I recalled when I used an LED but I didn't mess with any settings because I knew it was going to be plugged into a VGA monitor.  Curious as to how it looks on an LED.  I'm considering building my hardware into a "portable" tabletop unit.  If it were to travel, I would be using an LED monitor for that.

I am impressed with the overall result, it's not a GT live unit by any means but it's a great old school complete.

that looks amazing!!  I had tried to do that with a JROK RGB -> Component but I had too many issues getting it to work with LCDs.  Is that set on Low Res or Med Res?

Any specific instructions on how to do this?  I assume the Linux drivers will allow/mimic something to let the golden tee board recognize it and use it?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Edward Downey of London, Ontario passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 31, 2018 after a valiant health battle at the age of 60.

I'm sure he was our ed12 based on his name, city, age, and date of passing.
