19" Electrohome G07-CB0 Discoloration

Hi,

I just bought a Gorf cocktail that I want to restore. I am planning on replacing the caps, but I'm wondering about the monitor screen. There are a couple of purple splotches in the middle of the screen (see picture) that are present all the time.  Is the screen bad? It looks like the screen might just need to be de-gaussed, but how would I do that?  Anyone have any ideas on how to correct this, or know if it is possible to correct?

It'll need to be degaussed.
Typical after moving a cabinet.

You can purchase either a degaussing ring or something like a bulk media eraser (that's what I use)

It's a simple procedure that you can google.

You can even try using a battery drill to do it but I've never found the results to great from that.

If you have a soldering gun you can wave it around the front of the tube a few inches away.

If your trying the soldering gun trick, make sure its a soldering gun and not an iron.

Do yourself a favor and get a good degaussing coil.  Every time you move the cocktail or work on it you're going to need to degauss it.  I know when I open mine up I pull it away from the wall rotate 90 degrees and then flip the top open.  This jacks up the colors on the monitor every time and the degauss coil on the monitor itself isn't strong enough to correct it.  The coil is really worth it.  Of course you can always make your own out of a switch a lamp cord and an old degauss coil from an old monitor if you have one.  Just watch out they get hot really fast.
