Cyberball 2072 to MAME Conversion
« on: June 25, 2015, 10:46:33 pm »
Hi! A neighbor of mine is moving away and he let me buy his cabinet off of him. This thing is beautiful and is in great condition. It was already converted to MAME when he got it, but he took his HDD and CPs, so I have to start from scratch on that. I'll post updates as I decide to get stuff done. I suck at building these things, so expect questions and screw-ups.

To start my barrage of questions, what would y'all recommend as far as the CP goes? (please keep in mind that this is a 4P machine and it's MAME, so I'll need at least 6 buttons per player. Oh, and no need for trackballs)

Made a potential design for the cab in photoshop... Does anyone know of a good, very malleable, and printable material that would work for this application? (that preferably can be found at kinkos)

See Neph's Two-Headed Beast build thread.

That thing is amazing. I really love the RGB effect. I'll keep that in mind while building.

Unless your planing on using four player Steam games or some four player console games there is reason to have all 4 players to have 6 buttons. In my build Beat'em up-X I wanted guardian heroes, castle crashers, and Hamer fall, so I did do 4 6 button's players. The only other reason to have 4 6 buttons is if you wanted both sides to be be two different Mame cases joined at the hip and that sound like a wast.

If your just doing Mame then P3&4 only need 3 buttons. Malenko's open Ice is a good example.

I was hoping to play a modified version of Super Smash bros on here, so I need the buttons. Also, I will be playing several steam games on there. I have a small group of friends that comes over about once a week and we usually play the mess out of SSB or some Steam game if they want to go through the effort required to make a LAN party. This thing will be awesome as an easy multiplayer setup.

I have more monitors than sense (I have almost 70. I'm selling some if you need any), so I am putting 2 17" monitors in the marquee and an 18" touchscreen monitor in the middle of the machine for game selection. I'll post pictures when I have enough time and hardware to mount them all. Does anyone here know if Marquee Magician supports multiple monitors?

My favorite part of this build is the seller absconding with the original control panels.

What in the hell is anyone going to do with Cyberball control panels?

 ???

The neighbor that I got this from bought 3 of these things. He plans on keeping one and using it as a regular Cyberball machine, so he kept the panels.

I added the touchscreen today. The arm is awesome for its purpose and everything looks great (except for the huge LCD. I would've used a smaller one if I had one)

To select games. I'll either end up using some sort of FE or just straight up MAME on the screen.

New update-
I bought a Radeon 6850 to run my  monitor setup. The two original monitors will split a DVI port. The middle one will run as the main monitor. The top two will be combined using AMD Eyefinity.

Now, I need to assemble the marquee, figure out what I'm going to do about speakers (the previous owner shorted the system), and build the panels.

I still have the original metal panels from mine. If you want em, just pay shipping.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm gonna build my own wooden ones for this. Good job on yours, by the way

That's why you are a rock star.

I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

I know I haven't posted here in forever, but here's an update. I finally got around to ordering the buttons (well, some of them. They came in lots of 10 so I started with one lot as a test) and they're actually decent. The first half I ordered are red but I'm probably gonna make the other side blue. Also, I ordered a DC dimmer for the buttons (they're $2 with a RF wireless controller. It's a sweet deal) and I'll post that hooked up when it arrives.
