  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Hey guys, There are quite a few guides out there, but I have not been able to find a noob or intermediate guide for HyperSpin, Hyperlaunch, HyperSync, and MAME in one place. I built one fully updated and hope it helps.

It is on my site.  Cannot link here.

Please let me know if there are other pieces I should add, but it will get you playing.

Feedback appreciated.

Thanks,
Ryan

That's pretty handy looking. I just finished my first hyperspin install using the tutorial on the hyperspin forums, so the information is out there but more options are always better I think. Also your version goes deeper into the ways to get the artwork and the value of the memberships.

Seriously though, great work man. This thread should be stickied. Some place.

awesome. im wondering what the value of hyperlaunch is? currently i have hyperspin link directly to my mame executable, and since i only use mame and no other consoles, this is working great for me. am i missing some fantastic feature?

Hyperlaunch is merely for remapping of keys for non MAME keys configured systems (like closing an app which only can be closed by Alt-F4), some screen hiding etc. With only MAME there is no real need for HyperLaunch. I also don't use Hyperlaunch on my system. For other systems I even wrote my own AHK scripts to get things working.

A nice (basic) tutorial though.

Hyperlaunch also works with other frontend systems.  So you can setup everything in HyperLaunch and then switch frontends later if you want.  Also, if you do add consoles or PC games, Hyperlaunch will make life easier.

It's become a bit more robust than that in recent years... features like HyperPause could be really cool for some users (allowing them to pause emulators during play and display cool stuff like hi scores, manuals, videos, stats, etc) and like gameroomsolutions said, it's pretty neat that it works for different frontends.  It also allows for easy setup to have individual games to run via different versions of emulators, like say for example a newer version of MAME breaks a game you can have that game launch using an older version while everything else uses the new version).  Hyperlaunch is not the ideal option for everyone but it's definitely used for more than just remapping keys.

So once again, we find that evil of the past seeps into the present like salad dressing through cheap wax paper, mixing memory and desire.
