A little help with my MaLa background
« on: December 14, 2014, 11:38:40 pm »
I am doing a spaceman spiff theme for my vigolix bartop and am putting together a simple MaLa layout to go along with it.  Below is the image I would like to use as the background.  It originally was an all white background that I flipped to black and doctored up to get it looking halfway decent.  i'm not looking for anythign terribly fancy, but i am stumped as to how to go about doing the canopy on the spaceship.  As you can see it is basically all white where as it should be see through and maybe some shadow/glare to give it shape, but damned if I know how to do it (art is not my strong point).

Thanks.

you could try a simple gradient, use magic wand tool in photoshop to make selection then drag a black to transparent (circular) gradent over the inside then repeat for the outter side.
My art is always free for you to download and modify as you see fit...
Why?... because I could never find any art I loved on the net. So I played around with Photoshop and wish to share it with the arcade community.

Something similar to this ?

I took the photo - quick masked the area and copy pasted a new layer with it -- Inverted the colors on it and added a bit of inner and outer glow (included settings used in second pic to give you an idea of what was done)

That's pretty nice LT.  I played around with it a bit before work, found an image of a transparent ball, stretched and chopped and got this.  hmmm maybe some combination of them.   The nice thing about it being a mala background is that it's easy to change at will, unlike a CPO or side art.

Thanks all.

bah, my stupid work internet filter blocks imgur  :badmood: (school district, "adult oriented content"), fortunately I can check it out on my phone.  Definitely getting closer LT, I do agree with you on the top of the dome, needs a little something, and you obviously have more of an idea of what you are doing than I do, I can cut and paste.  Thanks for your help on this.
