Power Switch
fsa317:
Hi, I'm building my cabinet for a raspberry pi based unit. The pi, monitor and marquee I'd like to have on one power switch to power down / up the unit. Basically I was thinking of putting a power strip inside the cabinet but wanted a off/on switch mounted externally. I've been searching and haven't found a power strip that has a switch that can be mounted separately? Any idea where I can find what I'm describing?

Go here and start reading @ IEC Fused Power Inlet with a Lighted Switch. Hope this helps.

Perfect just what I was looking for.

Would love to get others thoughts on another idea - one that doesn't require as much wiring. What about buying something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-F7C016q-Conserve-Power-Switch/dp/B005MYN3OO/ref=pd_sim_e_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=06FMAKDDMP1ASP3EHE81
Run an extension cord with a female end inside the cabinet and mount this so that only the switch is exposed from the cabinet.
What do you think?

That would work, just not as clean and to unplug you have to open the cabinet. Hard part would be making the switch accessible and looking nice and secured solidly.
