What to do with bad Electrohome G07 monitor?

Okay a while back I bought a Pole Position II...it has an Electrohome G07 19" monitor in it.  When you turn it on the monitor only glows blue with some horizontal lines.  Well my friends and I just did a cap kit in the hopes of fixing it.  Unfortunately it didn't work...we saw a little bit of a picture for a little while but mostly just the same as before.  We did notice a rather large burn mark in the middle of the chassis when we went to do the cap kit.  So now I'm wondering what to do with this thing?  Is it worth anything to sell it or what?  We took it out of the cabinet and stuck another monitor in the Pole Position II so it's working fine now with the other monitor.  Any suggestions?

Don't know much about it, but you can possibly try an 8liner replacement chasis so long as the tube is good.  A cheap fix at only 65 bucks.

Sometimes after doing a capkit you have to readjust the "Screen" control on the flyback and the color trimpots on the neckboard to get the picture back to normal.

You could try the chassis on another Electrohome monitor and if that works then your picture tube could be bad on your original monitor. Connecting the tube to a rejuvenator/analyzer will tell you if the tube has problems and it may be repairable.

Okay, here's the deal I know little about monitors...the cap kit just seemed an easy cheap thing to try.  The little potentiometers (color trimpots?) I've played with to no avail...you can just make out images on it sometimes for a few seconds barely but that's about it.  I was just wondering if it was worth anything or should I throw it into the trash can?  Like could another chassis maybe fix it?  And would it be worth it?  Hooking another chassis to the tube seems simple enough as we took this one off to do the cap kit.  But I don't wanna buy a $50-75 chassis if it's not gonna fix the monitor or I'm gonna have to do something weird to get it to work...another words if it ain't plug n play.  I don't know anything about adjusting a flyback or whatever.

Do you know anyone near you with another Electrohome monitor that you could put your chassis on to try it out. I have a feeling that you might have a bad picture tube.

Here's how to set the color pots on the neckboard for you to test your existing tube. Turn the two trimpots R105 (red) and R106 (green) to their center of their range. Now turn the 3 trimpots on the other end of the board R114 (red) R115 (green) and R113 (blue) to the center of their range. Now power up the monitor and wait about 60 seconds then try adjusting the SCREEN control (it's like a brightness control) and see what your picture looks like. If the picture still is not good then chances are the picture tube needs rejuvenation.

If you decide not go any farther with this monitor, put the chassis up on ebay.

How was your soldering job on the cap kit? I just cleaned up a bad soldering job for someone who had installed their own capkit, but had soldered everything poorly. After cleaning up his mess, the monitor worked great!

No, I only know of a couple of people that even have arcades and I got them all started in this hobby.    Are the trimpots located on the back of the board...like easily accessible when I take off the back of the cabinet?  

BTW, what's rejuvenation of a picture tube mean?

I actually didn't do the soldering myself as I have extremely little experience...my friend did it and it looked like a very clean job to me.  Another friend and I just sorta helped make sure everything was right and helped hold everything in place and such.  

There's like a tv/electronics repair shop close by...I was thinking of taking it there to see if they could fix it.  Do you think that they'd be able to or are arcade monitors totally radically different than tvs?

The trimpots you need to adjust are on the parts side of the neckboard.

Yes, a tv repair shop could fix your monitor and many repair shops have rejuvenators (a.k.a. "restorer/analyzers"). A restorer/analyzer is a special piece of test equipment used for testing and repairing picture tubes. They have different socket adapters to fit various bases of the picture tubes. Meters are provided to analyze the 3 color 'guns' to tell you the status of them. Tests are emission, leakage, and shorts between elements. Weak emission causes dark pictures and/or weak colors. Leakage can cause one color to suddenly predominate other colors. Shorts can cause arcing inside the neck of the picture tube or cause parts to burn up on the neck board. Some of these symptoms can be cured with the 'zapping' section of the rejuvenator. It has been my experience that roughly 8 out of 10 bad picture tubes can be saved with the rejuvenator. A tv repair shop will charge around $50 for a rejuvenation. Sometimes they charge less if the monitor or tv set is there for other work. Rejuvenation typically takes around ten minutes time to do.
