How to use WinUAE Loader without database
« on: May 18, 2014, 03:47:39 pm »
I want to use WinUAE Loader to launch WinUAE (obvious) to have ESC as exit and simulate the mouse with my second joystick. I can't get this to work with AutoHotKey myself. I just want a hand full games to run so I don't want to use any of the supported game sets but directly launch my own disk images. Can this be done?

You can create a bunch of shortcuts for each game.

You mean use the 'Generate UAE Files' button in the Config tab? It creates one config file per game, not a bunch per game?

How should I launch the games than? WinUAELoader -rom "romname.adf" or are the key mappings added to the config file and should I just call winuae -f gamename.config -0 gamename.adf?

WinUAELoader -rom "romname.adf" should work. Check the parameters by launching WinUAELoader by itself.

Unfortunately I use my own key mapping system because to use WinUAE's built in key mapping I would have to do a lot of extra work. I do actually have a lot of that extra work done but at the moment it's still not fully implemented.

Thanks. Should I still create the configs per game? And should the kickstart roms be in the WinUAELoader\WHD\Devs\Kickstarts folder for this?

Is there a WinUAELoader log file?

Yes there is a log file. Read the ReadMe.txt file that comes with the download or check out the notes section here

I set up WinUAELoader like this:

I generated the config files for the games in the Disks folder.

I tried both

WinUAELoader -rom "rickdangerous.adf" and WinUAELoader -rom "f:\emulators\Amiga\WINUADE2800\Disks\rickdangerous.adf"

in both cases the log file says:

20-5-2014 00:10:46: WinUAELoader v1.78
20-5-2014 00:10:46: Error: "rickdangerous.adf" Not Found.
20-5-2014 00:10:46: Error Launching: "rickdangerous.adf"
20-5-2014 00:10:46: Exiting.

 :dizzy:

I found a workaround. I guess WinUAELoader is only meant to be used with one of the databases. So I picked GameBase as it contains the largest number of games. I set the path to a newly created folder:

I looked in GameBase.xml and found the path and name for Rick Dangerous. I created Rick Dangerous.zip in the folder GameBase\R\ and launched WinUAELoader with

WinUAELoader -mode GameBase -rom "rick dangerous.zip"

Still no go. Than I tried

WinUAELoader -mode GameBase -rom "Rick Dangerous.zip"

and voila. WinUAE was launched, Rick Dangerous booted and I could move the mouse with my second joystick and quit with ESC. Thats all I need. Well... I would like the pause function of WinUAE to be mappable to a key (preferable 'P') as I try to use the MAME keyboard shortcuts for all my emulators so they all work with my admin buttons. So far I managed to remap all emulators (Odyssey 2, Atari 2600, Colecovision, SNES, Sega MegaDrive, Sjaak's Fix It Felix Jr, Flappy Bird Arcade Edition, Space Commander) via their options or with a small AutoHotKey script. WinUAE was the only one I could not succeed with but thanks to HeadKaze's WinUAELoader I finally got it working now.  :applaud:

I'm glad you got it working

Yeah the "Generate UAE Files" is actually a different application I integrated into WinUAE Loader. It is just meant for people who need to generate a uae for each game for sets such as TOSEC.

Yes for GameBase/WHDLoad/SPS/DemoBase you need the GameBase databases. The reason is many games need particular settings to launch and this information is in the database.

Thanks for your response. What about my little feature request: remapping the pause button just like the exit. I think this is the only thing making WinUAE fully arcade ready...
