You're not supposed to turn it off.   You can't make money if it is off.  ;)

I think I read that it will save scores when you shut it off, but not initials.

That's probably the test switch.  LOL.  Have you tried holding that one while turning it on?  If you still have it open, the test switch is connected to the green or red wire that you see coming out from pin # 15 on your connector (in your pic, it's on the bottom).  Follow that wire and see if it connects to the red button.
