Thanks a lot for the help. I guess in theory, this would be all I need to build a new megatouch from scratch, if I can get the hard drive working? Also, how does the IO board plug into a non-merit motherboard?

Just realized i linked the wrong mobo. You need the one with built in video card. Asus A7n8x-vm or A7n8x-LA Heres the correct link:

But yes those parts are the main parts you need for Ion software. Ion software will run on any hard drive. You would need a IDE hard drive or you could use a SATA hard drive with a IDE to SATA adapter.
Also the Ion IO board uses usb port to connect to the Motherboard.

force 2005+ and all ion software will run on any harddrive.
2004 and earlier, all maxx, and all XL software must be run from a merit branded drive.
the merit hard drives have the firmware modified so that the software can check and see if the drive is from merit or not. if you view the model information on the drive in the bios you can see the manufacturer says "merit00" instead of "maxtor" or other similar string.
