Stupid Mame resolution question

(1/1)

southpaw13:
So I have been using Mame for over a decade and I have always bought VGA arcade monitors.  No matter what type of settings you use for Mame, some games will have graphic 'glitches' as is tries to force a 640x480 resolution.  So I got an older game with a pretty good CRT in it.  I built a Mame box with an ArcadeVGA video card that can handle all the different resolutions.  Looks pretty good.  So here comes the question.  Do you think I could use an ArcadeVGA board with a video upscaler to get things to look better on a VGA monitor?  Genius or just stupid.

Stupid.

Your words, not mine.

So would it work better?

No, I think you would getter better results tweaking your mame video modes. I run Wells D9200 in VGA mode and I can't say I really have any upscaling glitches. The CGA to VGA adapter would likely introduce its own little glitches to the image and unlike your mame video modes it is not going to be tweakable.
