Mame/Arcade Project. MAME360?
« on: July 04, 2013, 06:22:46 pm »
Hi All.

Noob here, just wanting to see if I can benefit from some communal wisdom.

I'm looking to build a standing cab (thin/Non CRT profile) and am wondering about the viability of using an old 360 I have lying around to run things.

Initial searches indicate that I'd be giving up a little in terms of a slick UI for emulators, but I'm wondering whether anyone has experience of running MAME360? I cant really even find much that talks to the emulators general performance.

I'm on a budget, but would love to run a good mix of modern and classic games. The only choice, other than a higher end PC seems to be to mod a 360.

So, anyone running a 360 in their arcade? what have the experiences been? Any help much appreciated.

Use an old Xbox - mod it and strip the DVD drive out and decase it.

Keep the 360 for playing purchased commercial games.   :badmood:

Sounds like solid advice, I was simply hoping for a single unit to fit all my requirements.
My understanding is that I'd be able to play purchased games still (as this unit wouldn't be online)?

Maybe I'm showing my ignorance with how the mods work.

mame for xbox360 isn't the latest. it has like 3000+ unique games I think.

and finalburn for 360 play bunch of games not supposed by mame(like sf3). its a great idea actually. I modded many consoles for people. I can probably mod yours too. there are some requirements. send me a message and let me know what kind of xbox you have.

Best to buy an old xbox mate, soft mod it,  then install Visionary.   Its the best front end for Mame, Snes, psx etc

u can still use it to play orig games as well.

I am currently in the process of doing this,  but its a pain when there are so many utube vids that are out there that you have to troll through though to find one that suits you.

I'm using a 360 but not for mame. There are plenty of titles from xbox live and used store bought titles to choose from. Plus the fight sticks are nice and easy. Maybe my next build will be a mame... Who knows?

Hey Fallingman,
I wanted the same things you're looking for with a 360 so I made this:

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,130529.msg1336027.html#msg1336027

it has MAME/other emulators and of course I can still play all the latest fighting games even Injustice, MK, SF...

(btw) I had Snaake do the mod and the marquee art as well.
