Here's a link to the official guide http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/business_leaflets/general/oft913.pdf

Wow, no wonder the EU is in such dire financial straits.  Under those provisions, an individual could order a "customized" cabinet, play with it for 6 days, get buyer's remorse and notify the seller that he doesn't want it on the 7th, and force the builder to refund all monies, including shipping.

This amplifies my original take on this situation by 10 fold.  If one were a small company selling large and heavy items on the web, like an arcade cabinet, and they get the slightest negative vibe from someone before the sale, they would have to be either insane or desperate to take the chance!  After reading that, Chris, I think your government is more to blame for this situation than Craig. :dunno

There is an exception for "the supply of goods made to the consumer’s own specification". You cannot return something which is custom made to specification. Same rules apply in the Netherlands.

stavros693000:
there should be some sort of warranty for such an expensive item, you would think and expect............ and should be able to return with in a given amount of time but only due to manufacturer fault or defect etc.
like randy mentioned you shouldn't be able to return an item due to change of hart

Chris John Hunter:

Randy, Yes I know what you mean. But it works both ways- you should have some kind of Warranty for an item that costs upwards of 2300$ or 1500£.

No other builder or stand alone machine that costs that money in the UK doesn't come with one.

Can the Mod shut this one down now please? Because I think we've all had our say and quite frankly I don't want a keyboard war breaking out. It started out as my own little rant more out of disappointment than spite.

I would like to point out, that he could still build machines for people as a hobby, sell them but not make a business out of it, especially seeing as his website if you go there says all kinds of over the top stuff about hand crafted, highest quality, totally custom if you wanted. You can't say that then get shirty when someone wants to (still order) but change to a less expensive set up on realizing you give no warranty at all.

I wouldn't buy a 300£ TV that didn't have a years warranty. Common sense says not to buy any large ticket item without one. :dizzy:
