Universal Chassis Question
« on: June 13, 2013, 09:20:58 am »
I know this topic has been more or less beaten to death, but I have a couple questions.

I have several 13"-14" tubes harvested from TVs.  Finding chassis for these is not an issue; the Wei-Ya C2414S is probably what I'm looking for there, as they are all 8-pin necks.

I have a 20" flat screen tube from a TV, though, that is also an 8-pin neck.  Wei Ya does not appear to manufacture a C2420S, only C2420H chassis.  (S and H denote neck connector size.)

What are my options, here?  Can a 14" chassis be modified to drive a 20" tube?

Thank you.

well most chassis that run 14" tend to run up to 20"-like the mtc9000 series
worst case would be lack of horizontal size

There should be a capacitor I can replace to widen that if it's a problem, yeah?

Other than the Wei Ya chassis, what other universal chassis are there?

well more likely you could adjust the b+ a little bit, high voltage poly caps are not something I would mess around with but if you knew what you were doing then I think you are probably correct

rodotron also make chassis as do a company called entech

jomac makes a chassis that fits anything from 14" to 20" tubes and pretty sure you can customize it in regards to neck type

they make it?  I see the picture on their site has a black solder mask; haven't seen that in a CGA chassis before.  It's expensive as chassis go, I think, are they better?  I've read a lot about fluctuating picture on the Wei-Ya chassis but (other than Jomac) I can't find a seller for anything else.

Answering my own question: no, they don't make it.  The company that made them on behalf of Jomac closed down and now no one makes universal chassis anymore.  There are plenty for sale still, it seems, but none are manufactured anymore.

The thing is, I have about a dozen tubes and no chassis to drive them.

What's a good chassis to purchase for 8-pin neck, 13"-14" tubes with low-impedance yokes?  The K7000 series seems to cover all the bases as far as neck size, tube size, and impedance, and I've read that they're good chassis.  Is this true?  I'll start scraping them up from eBay, or from folks on this forum if there are any for sale.  Probably going to need to start picking up chassis at a rate of 1-2 per month.

Are any of those made anymore?  Fella at Jomac said he didn't think any of them are currently manufactured.

I want to source some hardware I can learn to repair and use on a wide variety of tubes.

Min Dong has a single chassis that looks to support every commercially produced tube size between 10" and 39".  Sounds too good to be true, but if true, and they're not crap, I'd buy a bunch of them.
