That black looks sharp but I bet the blue looks nice lit up.

It depends on the rest of your panel I think. I went for black as the centre of the cab is black and I wanted to keep it all flowing. I'm going to post some photos of it soon when I get the time.

As for the blue trackball, I think it looks excellent. From my own experience though, I would say that you don't want it glowing bright as you tend to play a lot of games in low-light conditions and it does your eyes in. I went for a resistor value so it was just turning the thing on.

Here's my black one:

Although I'm currently redesigning and rebuilding it so the track ball is actually in the circular part of the design.

Well my control panel will be on the darkside so I'm leaning towards the black ball to match the black sticks and buttons.
Just wondering with that translucent blue ball our even the black ball, do they scuff or scratch easy?

Black anything is going to show up scratches more than anything else, but it's too early to tell with mine yet. Saying that, the balls are super tough and I've not noticed a mark on the blue translucent ball I've had for a few years. Though it doesn't get a massive amount of use. I really wouldn't worry about scratches though.
