Punch Out Custom Countertop
mgb:
Yeah, its definitely a cool project idea.
It's just a matter of working out the details.
That board from Mikesarcade is the inverter you would need.
you would need one per monitor
The punch out board set is, I beleive, 3 boards so there are 2 video boards. one video output to the top monitor and one to the bottom monitor.
Check out www.arcarc.xmission.com and grab a manual

I opened a 13" VGA monitor at the office today (circa 1995 Samsung). The only video input going to the monitor is a VGA (go figure). Is there a converter (CGA to VGA) I can buy that is 1)not too expensive, 2)not going to induce video lag, 3) not going to create too much heat for a compact cabinet to handle.
I can't believe for one second that this will work correctly.

Fun idea but isn't that still going to be huge for a countertop? Seems like 9" would be a nice sweet spot.

I'll also add that a "cabaret" version of a Punch-Out!! machine would be badass. Literally just a shrunken version of regular PO machine. Just a thought.
