that is exactly what i'm talking about!  do they make pressure pad switches in a SPDT configuration?  I would need it to turn on and stay on on a single press

PL1:
I don't know of any pressure pads in a latching SPDT configuration, but some lights like the M3 have a switch on the tailcap that you can turn one direction for momentary and the other for latching.

There are also places that sell replacement tailcaps that have have momentary pressure pads.

Just plug the model/manufacturer of your light and "switch" into your favorite search engine and you should find any available options.

Le Chuck:
All of those switches are momentary by design AFAIK.  Usually any state changes are handled by a circuit in the actual device.  I know some of my devices are single press momentary double press on/off.

Don't those usually have a toggle switch, and the cover is just to prevent them getting switched by mistake?

Different switch we're discussing.  The covered switches are great fun tho!
