Dumb question about button config
Peja:
Maybe I should put this here instead of in Audio/Jukebox/MP3 forum...... :banghead:
Hey everyone, after finally finishing my basement remodel, I am in the final stages of getting mame setup configured.
One question I have is, do I need to setup button configs for each game I have listed? I see there is a universal button setup, but it seems when I go into a game, the buttons don't work. Now if I load the game and go into the button config section for just that game, the buttons will work fine. I was hoping I could do a global setup so button 1 is button 1 on all games, button 2 is button 2 on all games etc etc. I can't seem to get that part to work....or would I not even want that since different games have different layouts?
Thanks,
Peja
Le Chuck:
I'd clear out my CFG folder and then open a game in MAME, enter into the menu, got to input(general) and set your controls for all the buttons you have. Then you should only need to alter games that need specialty control mappings.

Awesome....thanks for the reply Le Chuck. I will be trying that tonight after work.
Much appreciated.

AHHH That makes sense -- Any game that had already been configured prior to changing the general input would already have the default configuration saved to it's specific gfg (was wondering why some games would change correctly while others didn't and hadn't put the 2 together !)
Peja:
Also is there a generic layout for buttons within mame that satisfies most games? Such as:
six button config (even though most games won't use 6 buttons):
456
123
or
123
456
I guess it all depends on the person and my rig is a standard 6 button layout.
Thanks,
