Help me, CNC people!

(1/1)

EightBySix:
Just read through all of the CNC64 thread. Amazing

I wanted to ask, but didn't want to distract from the thread... Where do you look for threaded rods? I have a similar need for my coffee table cab project, to open and close the table top. I got a threaded bar from my local DIY shed, but if I managed to find one with a larger pitch (?) then I could spin it more slowly and have less motor noise.

Does anyone know of any places with various lead screws? Uk preferably...

Nephasth:
Home improvement stores. Commonly referred to as "all-thread". UK? Not sure.

Edit - Here's some nylon allthread in the UK: http://www.allthread.co.uk/allthread_nylon.html
And here's some steel allthread in the UK: http://www.shop4fasteners.co.uk/acatalog/Threaded_Bar_Steel_Studding_Rod_Allthread.asp

kahlid74:
Threaded rods can get quite expensive depending on size and length.

Grainger has threaded rods here - http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/threaded-rods/bolts/fasteners/ecatalog/N-8k5

McMaster Carr also has them - http://www.mcmaster.com/#threaded-studs/=m4r5hu

Also don't forget that these are retailers.  If you search on Ebay you may find a steal for threaded rods but watch for shipping.  It's solid metal usually and a beast to ship.

RandyT:
For lower-cost lead screw applications, you don't want just any threaded rod.  Acme threaded rod is most often used for this purpose.
